Hyderabad: ENT surgeons at MAA ENT Hospital treated a 45-year-old male patient who was admitted with vision loss in his right eye.

The patient first felt severe pain in the right eye and headache on the right side. On September 10, he had double vision and the next day he started noticing decreased vision in his right eye followed by complete loss of vision, said Chief ENT Surgeon at MAA ENT Hospital , Dr KR Meghanadh, who led the operation.

“CT scan and MRI showed fungal infection involving right sided sinuses and right eye socket,” Dr Meghanadh said.

Doctors began administering antifungal medications for the white and black fungus and surgically removed the infection from all of the sinuses and from the socket of his right eye. “We took cheese material from the sinuses and sent it for testing, which revealed the patient had white fungus,” he said.

After surgery and antifungal medications, the patient improved, regained vision in his right eye, and was discharged.
