Christmas may seem far away, but one way to get yourself in the festive mood is to plan your trip to the Christmas market.

Drawing inspiration from the large European markets which tend to attract thousands of people each year, Kent has its own selection.

It is during these events that you can get some of the finest handmade gifts for your loved ones.

Rochester Christmas Market

The markets will be held on:

  • Saturday and Sunday 27 and 28 November, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday December 3 from 12 p.m. (noon) to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday December 4 and 5, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday December 10 from 12 p.m. (noon) to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday December 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

What to expect

“The market will return once again to the picturesque Rochester Castle Gardens, where visitors will find unusual stocking fillers, unique and personalized gifts and, of course, mulled wine,” says Visit Medway.

“There will be fun for the whole family, including live shows, a fun fair and a Bavarian food village.

“The Market is located in the heart of historic Rochester, where you will find plenty of shops, restaurants and period architecture to explore.”

Dickensian Christmas Party

Visitors will also be treated to a plethora of Victorian delicacies at this year’s Dickensian Christmas Festival.

This will be held in Rochester High Street on Saturday (December 4) and Sunday (December 5) between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

“There will be costumed characters familiar from the works of Charles Dickens, parades, street performances and outdoor singing concerts,” says Visit Medway.

Everyone is invited to don their finest Victorian or Dickensian outfits for the parades which will take place from 12 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

The markets will be held on:

What to expect

Festive fans will be able to see Christmas bands, choirs and movies.

The Goods Yard’s food and rink vendors will offer “the best of their menus with a nice seasonal twist,” says Folkestone Harbor Arm.

Visitors who wish to purchase a gift for their family and friends will be able to see products ranging from fashion, home goods, handmade jewelry, ceramics, handicrafts and souvenirs, products from beauty and illustrative or digitally produced items.

  • The first two markets (November 27 – 28, December 4 – 5)
  • The last three markets (11 – 12, 18 – 19, 23 – 24 December)

“For those traders who choose to book with us for all dates, we have an offer of five weekly markets for the price of four,” adds Folkestone Harbor Arm.

The markets will be held on:

From Friday November 12 to Friday December 24.

  • Monday to Friday, from 10am to 18pm
  • Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Christmas Eve closes at 4 p.m.

What to expect

The event will return with “a colorful array of festive huts full of goodies as well as the usual delicious array of seasonal food and drinks,” the Canterbury Christmas Market said.

Bookings for Santa will open on October 1, with the Visit Santa Experience priced at £ 7.50.

The experience will see Christmas lovers greeted in the new Marlowe Arcade cave at Whitefriars shopping center.

Kids will be able to participate in a leprechaun workshop, receive their own leprechaun hat and participate in more fun activities before meeting the man himself.

Dog owners can also book a Santa Paws session from £ 4, where their four-legged friends can meet Santa.

“Each visit includes an opportunity for your dog to tell Santa how well he has behaved, a Christmas present for your dog and plenty of photo opportunities,” Canterbury Christmas Market says.

Live music will be played every Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon, but this is subject to change depending on the website.

Where is it?

If coming by coach, passengers can be dropped off at the drop-off point at St George’s Lane, opposite Whitefriars Shopping Center, where part of the Christmas Market is located and around 400 meters from Canterbury Cathedral.
