Bishop’s Stortford beat Folkestone Invicta 3-0 at home on Tuesday night (October 4) to take the lead in the Pitching In Isthmian League, Premier Division.

Ollie Peters, Jonny Giles and Tosin Olufemi scored the goals as the Blues edged Potters Bar Town to the top on goal difference.

Stortford, who travel to Herne Bay in the Isuzu FA Trophy third qualifying round tomorrow (Saturday October 8), have now kept five straight clean sheets and are on a seven-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.

Frankie Merrifield fired wide after cutting from the right before Darren Foxley closed in with a 25-yard strike that narrowly missed the top corner with visiting keeper Bailey Vose battered.

Stortford opened the deadlock in the 16th minute when Peters, unmarked, sent the ball through a crowd from the edge of the box.

The Blues pushed for a second and Giles was denied twice by blocks from defenders on the stroke of halftime.

Giles fired inches from the post from long range after the restart before making a mistake in the hosts’ next attack to double their advantage in the 53rd minute, the midfielder flying into Ryan Charles’ cross from close range .

And Steve Smith’s men scored their third goal just after the hour mark when Olufemi ran over Peters’ through ball and slipped the ball through Vose’s legs from the right side of the box.

Kent‘s side looked menacing at the break, despite leading 3-0, but Stortford worked hard to preserve their clean sheet and could have scored again when substitute Donell Thomas was denied with a smart save of Vose.

Meanwhile, the club announced that they had released Chris Harris. The striker, who scored 16 times in 40 appearances after joining last October, was an unused substitute on Tuesday night.
