DOVER – As retailers gear up for holiday shoppers, the Dover City Center Partnership offers a short-term option for start-ups to test the market.

The DDP offers a ready-to-go business owner the option of renting 400 square feet of space at 136 W. Loockerman Street until December 31st. The location is the former Brooks Men Salon in downtown Dover. The short term lease is $ 200 from December 12 to 31 and includes Internet, electricity and water utilities.

Additional fees may also apply, including a $ 1,500 security deposit and commercial insurance policy. The security deposit will be returned at the end of the short term lease, pending condition.

Interested active business owners should be prepared to complete an online application, in which they will need to provide a brief summary of the business, a description of the products for sale, and a commitment to be able to open their doors by the 15th. December. Businesses must also be operational at least four days a week, five hours a day.

“Qualified candidates are established and successful business owners, some of whom may consider expanding into brick and mortar locations,” said DDP Executive Director Diane Laird. “The ideal retailer will be ready to market [in this space] and sell items tailored to last-minute gift shoppers, including prepackaged food and drink that doesn’t require on-site preparation.
