Manager Derek Hares would have no qualms about starting the season with the already established squad this summer – but that doesn’t mean he’s ruling out new signings.
The Hoops retained 16 of their squad for the 2022/23 Southern Counties East Premier Division campaign ahead of the start of pre-season training this week as the club announced three new arrivals.
Goalkeeper Henry Newcombe and striker Riley Alford both came from Hythe alongside winger Euan Sahadow.
Hares is delighted with the team he has managed to build alongside coach Steve King.
“I think the team we have is strong,” Hares said.
“We would be happy to start the season with it. But, as always, if we can bring one or two, then we will.
“They have to make us better, there’s no point recruiting people to catch up with the numbers.”
The Hoops will begin pre-season training on Thursday, host a volunteer thank you barbecue this Saturday and plan to host a trials night next Wednesday.
Hares revealed: “We had a great response. With us also leading the reserve team this season, it’s a big step forward for the club.
“Let’s hope that [the trialist night] will work fine and something can come from this. So far this is a very good answer.
“I think we are an attractive club to play for.
“The pitch is beautiful and obviously we performed well on the pitch.”
Sahadow was loaned to Deal by Folkestone in the 2017/18 season and has scored 29 goals in 65 starts at this level.
Hares said: “We know Euan quite well, he’s done pretty well here on loan.
“He’s been to Tunbridge Wells and done well.”
The deal is due to start their pre-season schedule against Charlton Under-23s on Saturday July 2.
