Dennis M. Burns, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, died at the age of 78 on Friday July 15, 2022 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family . He was born on September 1, 1943 in Dover, NH, the son of Stanley and Irene (Hughes) Burns.
Dennis attended St. Mary Academy, graduating from Dover High School in 1962, and earning his bachelor’s degree in electricity. He was married for 59 years to his beloved high school sweetheart, Lee Ann (Joy). Dennis was a permanent resident of Dover. In his younger years, he enjoyed his summers in Rye Beach, NH. In his later years, he enjoyed his Florida home in Estero with his wife. He was a former member of the Dover Jaycees and Cocheco Country Club and president of the NH Alarm Association. In 1976 he founded DM Burns Security, a family business which he enjoyed growing with this son and grandson and proud that it is run by the third generation. He enjoyed his lifelong family and friends and the many memories made along the way.
Dennis is survived by his children Timothy and his wife Carolyn, Jonathan and his wife Kim; and Cathy and her husband Jim (Smith); his 9 grandchildren Elizabeth Dandurand, Ryan Burns, Melanie Merrihew, Mara Bucardo Perkins, Sarah DeSerres, Nathan Burns, Samuel Smith, Kate Smith and Ben Smith; and 7 great-grandchildren Eva, Olivia, Penelope, Isabelle, Soet, Julian and George; his sister, Sally; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his beloved wife, Dennis was predeceased by infant son Dennis Jr., brother David, sister Ellen Upton; and his niece Cicely Joy.
Visiting hours will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. A Christian Burial Mass will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Parish at St. Joseph’s Church, 150 Central Ave., Dover. Interment will follow in the family plot of the new St. Mary’s Cemetery.
