The body of Shonette Dover, 20, who had been missing for more than three weeks, was dug up in a sitting position in a shallow grave when police found the spot where she had been buried.
According to Police Commander Superintendent Hugh Winter, officers in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) received the report of a missing person on April 5, two days after family and friends in Dover reported. realized she was gone.
In an interview on Friday, after the discovery of Dover’s body, the superintendent noted that officers had received information that the woman had been sighted in region six (Berbice-Est-Corentyne) on two occasions, then in Mabura, in region eight (Potaro-Siparuni). Winter argued that the police search team may have been deliberately misled.
On Thursday afternoon, however, he said police received credible information from the victim’s 15-year-old sister that the body was buried in Dover boyfriend’s yard in Canvas City, Wismar, Linden. This is where Dover lived with Shaquawn Alleyne, her fiancé, and not her boyfriend, as the police initially said.
Following up on this information, Winter said several ranks, including those in the Department of Criminal Investigation (CID), surrendered there. There, the officers dug out the area.
“The body was dug up in a seated position with its head up and feet north,” Winter said.
After recovering the body, he was taken to Linden Hospital where Dover was pronounced dead. Subsequently, he was transported to the retirees mortuary pending an autopsy.
Importantly, the alleged killer, Alleyne, was not at home, but Winter said the police were looking for him.
Police reports earlier Friday said Dover’s 15-year-old sister confessed to police that she saw when Alleyne shot and killed her sister on the night of April 3, then buried her in the courtyard of his home in Canvas City in the presence of his father.
In the days and weeks since the young woman’s disappearance and now revealed the death, Alleyne fervently searched for her and begged her return. But all this time, Alleyne would have killed and buried her already.
The 15-year-old was involved in investigations while the suspect’s father is in custody.
