The Folkestone Channel Rotary awarded Paul Harris Fellowships to three club members at its Annual General Meeting, Rotary’s highest honor. These awards recognize members for their many years of sustained commitment to Rotary’s motto “Service Above All” and their significant contribution to the benefit of the community.

The awards were introduced by Founding President David Jarvis and presented by President Gary Calver.

Bill Flavell was a past president and is currently the club secretary. His work ethic is legendary and an example to everyone. He was a central member of the Rotary vaccination team which managed the 700 volunteer marshals for the Covid vaccination programme.

Bill also organized the Folkestone Santa Fun Run which was a central part of the town’s Christmas celebrations. Outside of Rotary, he also finds time to lead as Chairman and Trustee of Age UK Southcoast.

Derek Harris is also a Past Club President with 22 years of exemplary service in all aspects of Channel Rotary’s work in the community and internationally. He too was a core member of Rotary’s immunization team. He has also made a substantial contribution to the work of the national mental health association MIND for which he received an OBE.

Brian Banks has completed 25 years of dedicated service to Rotary. As a senior member of the club, he has done invaluable service to our youth program and to the broader youth work of the four local Rotary clubs, with a particular focus on young helpers in the community, ensuring that Rotary responds to the needs of these most deserving young people.

The club’s next big charity event will be Charity Golf Day at Sene Valley Golf Club, Hythe on Thursday June 16, when 200 golfers will raise money for local charities.
