A new craft market and musical performances in the heart of the city center are part of this year’s festive program in Folkestone.

The Kent Christmas Market will be located outside the Folca building on Sandgate Road every Friday and Saturday from Friday November 26 to December 18.

It will showcase a range of products from local producers and manufacturers as well as street food options and will be in place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vendors will be announced weekly here.

The program is in addition to the general Folkestone market which will continue to trade Thursdays and Saturdays as usual.

To add a bit of musical accompaniment, visitors to the city center can enjoy a live music program on market days, celebrating Folkestone’s status as the world’s premier city of music.

Performances by local musicians, including YO Songsters Singing Group, VIP Voicez and Sophia Stutchbury, will take place at 11:45 am and 1:30 pm every Friday and Saturday.

The program is run by Chambers Folkestone and the Sea View Studio and more information is available here.

Dr Julia Jones, Founder of Folkestone Music Town, said:

“These events will encourage the wide range of superb local musicians to appear and show off their talents in the city center, so that people can take pride in living and visiting the world’s first music city this Christmas.”

To welcome shoppers and music lovers to the city, free parking will be set up as Christmas approaches.

Parking in the town’s car parks and its paid parking spaces displayed on the road will be free on the three Saturdays before Christmas (December 4, 11 and 18).

Cllr David Monk, Head of Folkestone and Hythe District Council, said:

“Folkestone is the perfect place to experience the holiday season, with activities happening all over the city, from the downtown markets to our Creative District, Harbor Arm and beyond.

“We want to promote the value of local shopping at Christmas, attract business footfall across the city, and create the festive and festive atmosphere we all deserve.”

The festive program is presented as part of the Welcome Back campaign – a fund which provides councils across England with a £ 56million share of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The aim is to support the safe return to main streets and help rebuild better after the pandemic.
