DOVER – A rematch of last year’s Division II Men’s Hockey State Championship game took place Saturday afternoon at Dover Ice Arena between Dover High School and Somersworth/Coe-Brown.
Dover, who won last year’s league game in overtime 2-1, got the better of the Bearcats again with a 5-3 win and improved to 4-2 on the season. The Bearcats are 3-2.
Like Wednesday’s Green Wave victory over Spaulding, Dover fell behind early in the first half but rallied late in the same period to take a 2-1 lead before the break.
It was a tight game throughout as Dover went 4-3 for most of the third period until Logan Spagna scored an empty-netter with 17 seconds left in the match.
Dover received two goals from Parker Fleury and one each from Owen Culcasi and Josh Gagne.
Jonny Pelletier scored two goals for the Bearcats and Connor Strum added a goal.
Both head coaches, Mike Young of Dover and Shane Maurice of Somersworth/Coe-Brown, declined to comment after the physical match.

The Bearcats break the ice
Pelletier scored the first of his two goals at 6:43 of the first period for the first goal of the game. Pelletier’s goal was assisted by Dante Ceppetelli, who scored the Championship winning goal last year for Dover, and Aaron Bono.
In a “Fleury”
It didn’t take long for Dover to not only tie the game, but the Green Wave also responded by taking the lead in the first half.
Fleury scored an unassisted goal with 4:19 left in the period, and Jacob Lapierre found Fleury for another goal less than 2 minutes later, giving Dover a 2-1 lead with just over 3 minutes. to play.
Dover led 2-1 late in the first.
Strom’s goal with 12:34 left in the second period tied the game at 2-2, but, even quicker than in the first period, Dover responded with his own – just 9 seconds later.
Calcusi scored on a shot near the goal, assisted by Connor Calcusi and Jackson Carroll.
Dover, leading 3-2, scored again in the period 3:48 from Gagne’s stick. The Bearcats responded a minute later as Pelletier cut the deficit to just one goal, 4-3, starting the third.

The Green Wave and Bearcats were scoreless for most of the final period, with Dover leading 4-3.
With the Bearcats looking for the equalizer with less than a minute remaining, it was Spagna who found the opportunity to score an empty-netter and put the finishing touches to Dover’s victory with 17 seconds left. to play.
Rematch in February
The two teams will meet again on Saturday, February 19 for the second and final meeting of the regular season.
With a history tied to last year’s championship and a physical matchup on the ice on Saturday, the second matchup should be just as exciting as the first.
