Kent County Council elections are taking place this week and we are exposing all parties and their positions on key issues in your area.

For Folkestone and Hythe, we asked the main parties about the most pressing issues in the district right now, and what they will do to deal with them if elected.

Labor is putting forward three candidates for the Kent County Council election.

Folkestone Labor President Jon O’Connor said: “The county-wide Labor manifesto promises a good start in education, better social protection, economic recovery and investment in sustainable infrastructure – thus than better basic services.

“There is a strong emphasis on climate change, recognizing the need to rebuild differently to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, which has affected everyone in the county.

“This is a broad agenda that promises new thinking – the long-term public interest coming first.”

Laura Davison added: “My priorities are to work for change that addresses inequalities and to show the neighborhoods I represent the attention they deserve.

“Whether it’s dealing with waste and potholes or focusing on the massive housing and social care crises we face.

“We live in a beautiful place, let’s make it a fair and a neat one too.”

Jackie Meade added: “We need to look after the environment for the sake of our children: they deserve clean air, safer routes to school and it’s our job to make sure they all get it. the opportunities they deserve. ”

Jon O’Connor is seeking to join the Labor City Council of Folkestone in the central district, in a by-election created after the long absence of a former councilor.

Describing his priorities, he said: “Our downtown area is undergoing a major regeneration plan over the next ten years.

“We need to make sure that the voice of local people is heard.

“It’s not just about development, but our heritage and our visitors, creating new jobs, helping young people, keeping the community safe – we can all build a bright future for Folkestone . “
