“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is reportedly rebooting from a sitcom to a drama called “Bell-Air”.
Deadline reported that “Bel-Air” will be “an hour-long series based on the popular Morgan Cooper fan film that reinterprets the 1990s sitcom Will Smith as a drama.” The project, from Westbrook and Universal Television studios of Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, is currently being pitched … “
According to Deadline, the show will be directed by Cooper and co-written by Cooper and Chris Collins.
“Set in America today, ‘Bel-Air’ is an hour-long serial drama analogue of ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ that builds on the original premise: The Complicated Journey of Will from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. With a reimagined vision, ‘Bel-Air’ will delve deeper into the conflicts, emotions and inherent prejudices that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format, while providing swashbuckling and fun nods to the original show.
According to Deadline, Cooper’s short film released in March 2019 received nearly 8 million views in two YouTube posts and received high praise, including from Will Smith who said, “It’s a brilliant idea.”
