Rising infection rates amid the spread of the Delta coronavirus variant has sparked speculation that easing will be delayed.

New data from a symptom study estimated 1,738 people in Kent are currently suffering from symptomatic COVID.

The ZOE Symptoms App uses scientific data provided by King’s College London and is the world’s largest ongoing study on COVID-19.

The app estimates Maidstone currently has the most active cases in Kent, closely followed by Medway.

According to the data, 326 people in the district have symptomatic coronavirus at a rate of 1,933 per million.

Tonbridge and Malling are estimated to have the highest rate per million, currently 2,068 with 268 active cases.

On the other end of the spectrum, Folkestone and Hythe currently have the lowest estimated number of active cases – just 46.

Dartford has the second lowest number of active cases – 66 at a rate of 609 per million.

Elsewhere, Canterbury is estimated to have just 80 active cases – despite increased COVID testing.
