The candidate who the bookmakers believe will become the next Prime Minister is visiting Kent this weekend.
Foreign Minister Liz Truss is due to meet Conservative Party members at five locations across the county tomorrow.
In an email sent to local Tories – which was seen by KentOnline – officials said the leadership candidate would speak to campaigners in the Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Canterbury and Folkestone areas.
He said: “I am delighted to inform you that Liz Truss will be spending time in Kent tomorrow.
“She will visit five locations across the county to meet with members and answer their important questions about the upcoming contest and why she wants to be Prime Minister.”
Members who register to attend the meetings will receive the exact locations of the events – which have not yet been revealed – tomorrow morning.
The post also notes that there will be “light refreshments served” free of charge, although there is a raffle of £5 to offset costs incurred by the person hosting the conference.
Ms Truss qualified for the final round of the leadership race earlier this week, after winning the support of 113 Tory MPs.
Meanwhile, his rival for the top job, Rishi Sunak, won 137 votes.
Despite this, the bookmakers have Ms Truss as a favorite after early indications suggested she has the biggest support among party members, who will make the final decision.
The couple will tour the UK to take part in 12 hustings for Conservative members who will vote for their next leader, with the result announced on September 5.
