WITH the August public holiday right on our doorstep, many supermarkets will be operating at reduced hours.

So as not to be surprised when you come to the store, we have listed all the opening hours of your favorite supermarkets below.

Store hours vary from location to location, so it’s recommended that you check your local store before you go.

Here are the opening hours for the main shops in Colchester and North Essex:

Aldi

Aldi has three stores in the city at Cowdray Avenue, London Road and Magdalen Street.

There’s also an Aldi at Pier Avenue, Clacton.

The company announced its opening hours for stores across the UK this weekend.

These are:

  • Saturday August 28 – 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sunday August 29 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday August 30 – 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Lidl

There are two Lidl stores in Colchester – at Abbot’s Road and Gosbecks Road.

There are also stores in Harwich, Parkeston Road and Clacton at Brook Retail Park.

Lidl applies its standard opening hours on public holidays this weekend.

Here they are:

  • Saturday August 28 – 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sunday August 29 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday August 30 – 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Tesco

He has two supermarkets in Colchester, Hythe and Highwoods, and several small Extra stores.

Tesco also has a large store at Brook Retail Park in Clacton.

Most department stores are usually open until midnight each evening, but are scheduled to close earlier than usual on Mondays.

Here are the opening hours for this weekend:

  • Saturday August 28 – 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Sunday August 29 – 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Monday August 30 – 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Asda

The supermarket giant has two stores in North Essex – at Turner Rise Retail Park in Colchester and at Main Road, Dovercourt.

Here are the Colchester store opening hours this weekend:

  • Saturday August 28 – 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sunday August 29 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday August 30 – 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Here are the opening hours for the Dovercourt store this weekend:

  • Saturday August 28 – 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sunday August 29 – 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Monday August 30 – 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s has two main stores in Colchester, Tollgate at Stanway and in the city center.

Hours of operation may vary depending on the size of the store, but for Stanway’s largest, they are:

  • Saturday August 28 – 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday August 29 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday August 30 – 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Waitrose

The Waitrose store in St Andrews Gardens will be open during the holiday period.

Here are its opening hours:

  • Saturday August 28 – 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Sunday August 29 – 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Monday August 30 – 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Morrisons

Unfortunately, as residents often point out, there are no Morrisons in Colchester.

However, there are Morrisons stores in Clacton and Harwich.

Here are their opening hours this weekend:

  • Saturday August 28 – 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sunday August 29 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday August 30 – 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
