Penn State Health has become co-owner of the Lancaster Surgical Center. This decision represents the first project of a joint venture involving the health system and ValueHealth, which announced at the end of 2020 its intention to develop a high-performance surgical network.

The new ownership group, including 17 surgeons who will retain their ownership, aims to accelerate the growth of the center’s service offerings and further expand access to value-based surgical care in the region. Additionally, Lancaster County patients will have access to Penn State Health surgeons at the Lancaster Surgical Center without having to leave the county.

Lancaster Surgical Center will continue to offer multi-specialty surgical services including orthopedics, otolaryngology (ENT), ophthalmology and pain management in its five state-of-the-art operating rooms.

ValueHealth recently acquired the Lancaster Surgical Center to enhance its digital operations and introduce a unique surgical platform designed to reduce variation in surgical care outcomes, experience and cost.
