Priti Patel was seen visiting Dover today as border force officials rescued around 100 migrants attempting to cross the Channel from France.

The Home Secretary was seen speaking to border force officers in the port town of Kent on Thursday.

The visit took place the same day, the catamaran of the Border Force Hurricane dropped off around thirty migrants intercepted in the English Channel.

And a second boat with about fifty people on board was also intercepted at sea and brought into the port of the port of Dover.

At least a group of six people also reportedly made the crossing in a small dinghy.

The latest arrivals bring the total number of people making the crossing in small craft to 14,400 this year.

The total for 2021 to date is already just over 6,000 more than the number of people who made the crossing in 2020.

At least 14,400 people have crossed the UK on small boats this year.

Earlier in the day, a group of around 30 men could be seen draped in light blue blankets wearing orange life jackets as they disembarked from a border forces boat in Dover.

They were escorted to the gateway by Immigration Enforcement for processing.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Coast Guard Hunter Hunter also had to rescue five migrants from the water during a rescue mission.

Dozens of migrants also arrived today in small boats. One of the first small boats to arrive held six people from Syria and Sudan.

22 other migrants were taken to safety after their boat found itself in difficulty off Dunkirk.

Another 33 people were rescued after encountering difficulties in a body of water off Dunkirk later in the day.

They were taken to the port of Calais, where they were met by the French border police.
