A popular Mediterranean-themed grocery store is looking to expand beyond the Birmingham area.
The Purple Onion recently reached an agreement to expand its operations to four vacant restaurants in and around Birmingham. The deli and grill will move to the former locations of the famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits by Bojangles. The franchise also provides for locations possibly in neighboring states.
The new locations will be at 1545 Montclair Road in Birmingham, 2207 Moody Parkway in Moody, 2581 Pelham Parkway in Pelham and 3318 Rainbow Drive in Rainbow City.
Lyndsy Yim, a broker associated with Retail Specialists, said the Montclair Road store will be the first to open, followed by Moody, Pelham and Rainbow City. The openings will take place throughout the fall and winter.
“They are all similar sizes, ready to move in,” Yim said. Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
The Alabama-based company, established in 1991, has offices in Hoover, along US 280, at 2296 Pelham Parkway and in Hueytown.
Yim said the former Bojangles locations meet the company’s drive-through window needs.
“Even before COVID-19, it was something they were looking for,” she said. “It was something they wanted to do. Even though this is a lifestyle change that people will likely make after this, the drive-thru still made sense. “
