Say what you want about Netflix canceling too many shows; the thing is, the streamer still has some of the best series you’ll find anywhere. Between squid game, stranger things, Cobra Kaiand Bridgerton the streamer still has a lot to offer. Now it looks like Oscar-nominated actress Salma Hayek is leading one of the best Netflix series of all time. The Gucci House star is in talks to join the cast of black mirror.
On Friday, Variety reported that Salma Hayek is in talks to join the cast of Netflix’s dystopian sci-fi series for its upcoming sixth season, and she’s not alone. Annie Murphy from Schitt’s Creek celebrity. It is unclear which parts will play or in which episodes. black mirror is an anthology series, with each episode offering fans a differently twisted reality; examples include a world where all of life is recorded for video playback, and in another, criminals have their memories erased and hunted as part of a popular game show.
Whatever the roles of Salma Hayek and Annie Murphy in black mirror, they will join an already impressive cast. In early July, THR and others reported Aaron Paul (breaking Bad), Kate Mara (Card castle), Josh Hartnet (dreadful penny), Zazie Beetz (The Batman), and Paapa Essiedu (I can destroy you) had all landed roles in season 6 of the series. Most recently, on Thursday, Deadline announced that Rory Culkin (Panels) would also appear.
Assuming all the negotiations work out and Salma Hayek shows up to the hellish reality black mirror puts her in, it’s bound to be another sign of the star’s return. Hayek hasn’t faded from the public eye, although his on-screen work slowed considerably between 2018 and 2020; of course, given the consequences of COVID-19, she is not alone in this regard. But this year and last have seen a fierce resurgence in his career.
Last year, Salma Hayek made her Marvel debut as the leader of the titular heroes in Eternals and landed a supporting role in Ridley Scott Gucci House. Later this year, we’ll hear her reprise the role of Kitty Softpaws alongside longtime colleague Antonio Banderas in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. This week, Hayek told Deadline she had just finished filming without bloodcrossed out by her Eternals co-star Angelina Jolie. The film is based on the 2008 novel by Alessandro Baricco. Set after the conclusion of an unnamed military conflict, without blood tells the story of Hayek’s character’s revenge for the death of his family.
Along with being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Salma Hayek has joined another popular franchise over the past couple of years, but something has us worried about whether we’ll see it or not. Hayek is part of the cast of Magic Mike’s Last Dance; the final film in Channing Tatum’s stripper trilogy. Originally, the movie was supposed to skip theaters to air on HBO Max. Of course, there’s been plenty of upheaval at HBO Max since, including the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav expressing a lot of disinterest in direct-to-streaming movies, which is one of the reasons for the cancellation of bat girl. The Magic Mike movie has yet to be mentioned amidst the carnage, and we hope it stays that way.
