Small stream – Delaware State Police have arrested a 16-year-old in connection with the October shooting in Little Creek.

The first incident took place on Friday, October 15, 2021, around 12:06 am in the 300 block of Main Street, when area residents were awakened by the sound of gunfire. Upon closer examination, a resident located several bullet holes in his house. Soldiers scoured the area and discovered 22 used shell casings on the west side of the residence on the causeway.

The second incident occurred this morning, Sunday, October 17, 2021 at around 4:08 a.m. when, once again, residents of the same neighborhood were woken up to the sound of gunfire. The same house that was shot down on Friday suffered more bullet damage in that event. Soldiers scoured the area and found over 30 used shell casings on the west side of the residence on the causeway.

No one was injured in the house during either event.

The suspects were described as three men wearing dark colored clothing. After firing the bullets, the suspects entered two separate light-colored sedans and fled north on Bayside Drive (SR9).

On October 18, 2021, a 16-year-old was arrested by the Dover Police Department after he was found in possession of a gun at Dover High School. After recovering the handgun and ammunition, detectives from the Delaware State Police and the Dover Police Department worked together to gather information and sent the weapon to the US Army Service Unit. ‘forensic firearms for further follow-up. After firing the gun in the forensic lab, it was determined that the shell casings recovered from the scene in Little Creek matched the ammunition and casings from the recovered handgun.

On Friday, December 18, 2021, detectives intervened at the teenager’s residence in Smyrna and took him into police custody. He was brought back to Troop 3 where he was charged with:

  • Possession of a lethal weapon while committing a crime
  • Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person (minor)
  • Reckless endangerment 1st (2 counts)
  • 1st plot
  • Criminal mischief (2 counts)

The minor was arrested at JP7 and released on unsecured bail of $ 26,050.00.
