Pupils from across Folkestone showcased their artistic talents at the second Turner Schools Creative Arts Exhibition, with over 1,500 entries from schools across the trust. Students collaborated on many projects to build the finished exhibits.

The theme of this year’s exhibition was ‘We Are Folkestone‘ which allowed students to examine the city they live in, past, present and future and create a body of work that puts young voices at the heart .

As well as the artwork on display, pupils from all three primary schools as well as sixth form pupils from Folkestone Academy performed a series of live performances. Folkestone pupils sang, played the piano, danced and performed throughout the evening. After the performances, there were speeches from notable dignitaries followed by the presentation of the awards.

Councilor David Monk, Leader of Folkestone and Hythe Council, and Deputy Councilor to the Mayor Belinda Walker attended the display, along with school governors and other notables from across the trust. Councilor Walker and Turner Schools CEO Seamus Murphy presented prizes to the winning students.

Seamus Murphy, CEO of Turner Schools, said, “I am incredibly proud of the resilience and strength of character our students have shown throughout the past year. The quality of work they have continued to produce both in school and via home learning has been fabulous.

“This exhibition was an opportunity to showcase some of the talents they have shown throughout the year. I am particularly pleased that we also have creative academics showcasing their work this year, a new initiative at the Folkestone Academy.”

Michelle Foxwood, Creative Arts Director at Turner Schools, said: “We are not just five institutions working independently to meet the Ofsted criteria, but rather a united collective invested in the continued regeneration of our city through its most important asset. : young individuals who, as a community, will take us into the future.
